Get PADI certified where the diving is actually good. Aldora Divers, a PADI 5 Star IDC Resort, runs Open Water, referral check-out dives, Advanced Open Water, Rescue and Enriched Air Nitrox from the Villa Aldora pier, so your training dives happen on real Cozumel reefs in warm, clear water instead of a quarry back home.

PADI Open Water Diver is the full beginner certification: dive theory, confined-water skills and four ocean boat dives, usually over three or four days of your stay, and it certifies you to 60 feet (18 m) worldwide. Already done the classroom and pool at home? Bring your referral paperwork and finish the four check-out dives here. Certified divers can go on to Advanced Open Water (five adventure dives: two required, three of your choice), the four-to-five-day Rescue Diver course, Enriched Air Nitrox, and PADI specialties from Drift and Deep to Night and Wreck.

Warm Water, Small Classes, Real Reefs
Cozumel is one of the easiest places in the world to learn: 80 degree water most of the year, visibility that regularly passes 100 feet, and shallow, sheltered reefs for the first dives. Aldora keeps student-to-instructor ratios low, and because the boat leaves from our pier there is no shuttle, no dive-shop lobby and no wasted morning. You learn, you dive, you walk back up to the villa for lunch.
WHAT TO BRING
Before You Arrive
Finish PADI eLearning at home if you can; it saves a full day on the island. Bring your logbook or referral forms, a swimsuit, and a mask that fits if you own one. Everyone completes the PADI diver medical questionnaire, and any yes answer needs a doctor's approval before you dive, so sort that out before you fly. Minimum age is ten for Junior Open Water. Check-in happens at the shop the day before your first dive.
